That broad ligand promiscuity is both its strength as a research tool and the reason its clinical development in Duchenne muscular dystrophy was halted, since off-target ligand sequestration produced vascular effects. It is a large recombinant fusion protein, not a peptide, and requires strict cold-chain handling and gentle reconstitution to avoid denaturation.
